From newspaper ads to television to social media, marketing methods and trends have seen numerous changes over a short duration of time. Whether we are waiting in the drive-thru or at the office, businesses, events, and other entities are curating and pushing out content in front of us. Being on various sides of the marketing industry, here are five trends we have noticed.
1. Short, sweet, and frequent is better
It isn’t all about telling the “full” story, it’s about hitting the high points in multiple, catchy pieces. We are all (or at least think we are) “busy.” In a dynamic world full of information, a large percentage of people typically glance, skim, or briefly look at the thousands of marketing materials sent to them. Curating more shorter content is more appealing, easier-to-read, and will likely reach your target audience versus a couple fully detailed items.
2. Videos, Pictures, and Animations
A joke used to be my high school taught reading through looking at pictures. Little did I know this must have been the case across the nation. Instagram became popular with millennials and generation Z due to every post being an image. Now, with TikTok, Snapchat, and other visual social media platforms, it is essential to be creative and curate quality videos, pictures, and animations. However, as mentioned above, all elements must be short and sweet to effectively capture your audience.
3. Symbols, Brands, and Jingles
McDonald’s golden arches, Nike’s swoosh, and State Farm’s jingle are all highly recognizable elements. It is important to design, replicate, or figure out what unique symbol, brand, or jingle your entity possesses. It is crucial to be in the back of customers’ minds. Even if the customer hasn’t done business with you, they always remember who you are.
4. Tell YOUR story
While cash is still king and whatever saves or provides the most value for the least amount of money typically is who a customer will pick, people maybe more than ever care about who they are supporting. Small-business, hardships, and values are all elements individuals want to know and are willing to support, even if it doesn’t financially make sense. Following the above marketing rules, be sure to have a story and let it be known.
5. Easy Navigation
With GPS, who uses a map anymore? People have become lazy in the fact that directions, information, and instructions can be accessed within seconds. Therefore, all websites, articles, links, and instructions must be quick, easily understood, and simple. If it is too complex, people will likely move onto another task and push you off to the side.
As you prepare your next social media post, email blast, or advertisement, remember to run through these dynamics to ensure you are effectively maximizing your marketing strategy.
